Courses Offered At Spaulding H.S.
Band
The Spaulding High School Band performs at school football games, athletic
events, various holiday parades, and other local and out of state functions.
The concert band, marching band, jazz band, and other small pep bands perform
an average of 40 performances each year. Past performances have taken place at
the Statue of Liberty, at Disney World, Disney Land, at Shea Stadium for the
New York Mets, at the Winston Cup Races, and most recently for Presidents
George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George Bush Sr. as well as former Vice
President Al Gore.

Chorus
The Spaulding High School Chorus is open to all students in grade 9. The
Chorus performs at many local and out of state events, functions, and
concerts. In the past few years, the Chorus also performed for a U.S.
President, at the Statue of Liberty and on stage at Disneyworld and Disneyland
in Florida and California. The Chorus performs many styles of music including
classical, jazz, pop, and current music. The Chorus is an active group which
performs many times throughout the year.

ACES - Accelerated Chamber Ensemble Singers
Students learn how to develop singing voices on an individual basis within
a small group environment. Students will explore varied approaches to singing
through topics such as: posture, breath control, learning to sing in tune,
developing confidence in individual singing, the voice mechanism and how to
protect it, as well as career opportunities in singing.

Dance I
This course offers students the opportunity to explore all aspects of dance. Students will learn how to master the basic techniques of a variety of dance styles such as jazz, tap, swing, modern, ballet, ballroom, and many other popular dance styles. Students will also study the history and role of dance in society. Daily dance class sessions will improve flexibility and muscle tone, increase range of motion, and improve overall cardiovascular fitness.

Dance II
This course offers student the opportunity to explore all aspects of ballet. Students will focus on developing proper posture, foot placement, hand movements and vocabulary and technique of classical ballet. Students will work to develop flexibility, strength, and endurance as well as the discipline and attention to detail essential to the development of a ballet artist.

Introduction to Theatre
This course is designed for students interested in the field of theater. Students will learn about all aspects of theater including acting, speaking, music, choreography, set design, technical effects, lighting, make-up, costuming, auditions, directing, staging, and blocking. Students will explore improvisation, building a character, preparing monologues and stage movement through individual and group projects.

Introduction to Music Technology
This course is designed for students interested in the fields of music and computer technology. Students will learn in the music technology studio which will be equipped with multimedia-ready computers that are internet capable and include audio in/out capability, general MIDI sound generation, powered speakers, CD or DVD-ROM players and MIDI keyboards connected to the computers. A wide array of learning experiences in the course include the use of computer assisted instruction, MIDI sequencing, music notation software, internet music resources, and electronic musical instruments to help students acquire the knowledge and skills listed in the National Standards for Music Education.

Advanced Audio Recording
This course explores audio recording, mixing, and engineering. Topics included in this course: microphones, stereo microphone techniques, sound cables, system configuration, digital audio, signal processing, hard disk recording, and recording techniques. PREREQUISITE - Introduction to Music Technology.

Multimedia Career Exploration
This course is designed for students interested in the fields of radio and television broadcasting. Students will learn Federal Communications Commission broadcast rules, television rating systems and will work on producing television segments in conjunction with MetroCast Channel 12. This class will meet in the music technology studio and will include the use of professional equipment used by Channel 12.. The focus of this class willb e to provide hands-on experience in the field of radio and television broadcasting to students interested in the field of communication.

This course provides students with an overview of musical styles. Topics include: Music Around You, Notation, Instruments of the Orchestra, Mozart and Classical Times, American Composers, Jazz and Blues, American Music Theatre, Music Careers, Decade Research Projects, the Beatles, and the history of rock.
